Independent Reading- Time Stops for No Mouse

Chapters 19-25

Author's Note: In Chapter 19- "Mechanical Inclinations," we are introduced to another minor character. But, it's the chapters after that that really are something. Hermux meets an odd character, a rouge rat whose name is never mentioned. Hermux finds out the rat wants the broken watch rather hastily, after refusing to give the watch to the stranger, being worried about Linka's safety, he follows the rat. The rat leads him to many important clues about Linka's disappearance. And of course when the book is just getting good, I reach my "Amount of Pages to Read Goal," and have to just shut-up and deal with it!!!!! So this piece, is a story, after a few requests I decided I should try to relate my life to the story…. here it is!

Have you guys ever gone snooping where you shouldn't have? Like Hermux in this story. He follows the rat even when he knows the consequences. Have you ever pulled something off like this (I'd like it if you'd answer this in your comment…. Thanks!) I have.

So basically when I was still at JRG, there were all of these make-up products, combs, brushes, hair clips, etc., etc., etc., going missing from the "Girls Locker Room." We also had a "Block Schedule" there. But, the difference was that you'd either have lunch first or recess first, and then you'd switch. I realized that this would be the perfect time for the culprit to strike. I noted the techniques that this person would use to get these items. The person would usually pick the locks, I searched what the average times on how long it took to pick a lock. Knowing that this was only an average middle school girl, I guessed that this girl wouldn't live up to the average, but of course I could be wrong.

What I did next, was really annoying. I missed both of my chances of recess. On an average day, before I started playing detective, I would always choose what days I wanted to go out first or eat first. Who said I follow rules??? Now this new life leads me to say: my new detective days SUCKED…. LIKE A LOT!!!! I missed any chance of my free- time!!!!

Anyways this is about the story, not my inner feelings on children being torn away from their only moments of life through a whole depressing school day, and piles of tests and papers and essays and mean teachers and detentions and HOMEWORK…. Did I over do it???

ANWAYS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ok… during my whole hour of a pointless and boring lunch (good thing I had a whole bunch of friends in both lunches) I'd take note of which person I didn't see on a regular-bases. I came down to a few names, actually it was 38 names. I easily eliminated about half of them because seriously what would boys want with lip- gloss? (If I were a guy the only reason I'd want lip- gloss would be to give my siblings a "beautiful" make-over while they slept- I do that anyways.)

Now, I had a remainder of 17 names (I know that 19 is the half of 38 but, close enough). From these was able to eliminate the names of people who had lunches separately because of there statuses. By "statuses", I mean people who had different needs, I can't think of the word I want to use. This left me with only 8 people.

Now came the hard part, how was I supposed to know who either had detention, was absent, suspended, or even the criminal. (Ooo, "criminal" seems to much of an accusing word to be put to describe a 12 or 13 year old seventh girl- but I'm tiered of using "culprit," so yea. Also, I was pretty sure it was a seventh grader because what eight grader would want a "sevies" germs).

I had to find a way to separate the innocents, so what I did was so like CRAZY that there really is no word to describe it!!! I cut  off the schools internet access. This meant that no one could be able to connect to the internet or the school server (oh, how I love my hacking skills…. Ahhhhh). Since the server was down, no teacher would be able to send in attendances. My friend and I were doing the announcements for that auspicious (did I use that word right?) Friday.

After telling the whole school that a volunteer would be collecting the attendance from them, I simply said "I'll do it!" I mean you should have seen my face!!! I got to miss math and I'd be getting closer to cracking my case!!! NO MATH!!! Actually math wasn't bad, Miss Greenevil was. What type of name is that!?! "Green-Evil!?!" Really!?! No wonder she wasn't married!!! Okay, now back to the story.

I went to every classroom and read each attendance card. The cards would have categories: "Excused," "Unexcused," "Suspension,"  and "School Related." I didn't really care what reason people were absent for, but what I really wanted to know was who was absent and for how long. Now with these results I was able to connect it to the attack pattern of the "Locker Thief."

From my results, there were more people absent than my listed suspects. But, that’s not important. The thing is that I was able to sort out so much that I came down to only three people left! This was great. Now from these three people I knew two of them real well. These two girls, were close friends; they would spend the whole hour outside. That's probably what I would start doing after this detective biz.

The last suspect on my list was Addie Zimmer. Addie was the worst person I EVER had met!!! And, since I move a lot, I've met a whole bunch of people. Addie would do anything for a guy. My friends and I would name her "Baddie."  Yea, I know it sounds Kindergarten and all, but, we really didn't want to waste time on her. Okay, I'm not going into details….and don't yell at me for saying this this but, guess what I would describe her as……..

But, the real question was why Addie would want this stuff. She had all of this stuff already, I knew because she would have parties at her place every month, and all the eighth graders would talk about them for weeks after. (Oh yea, Addie is a 8th grader, she's 15). Anyways, knowing Addie, I knew she could probably be able to pick a lock faster than an average person. This meant I'd have to hurry. Addie had Spanish 1 with me, this was just before Lunch/ Recess. How convenient.  I easily followed her to her locker. Well, not exactly. Her locker was a right down the hall. I faked a locker jam, and as soon as she put away her books and all, I shoved all my crap into my locker, and pulled out my "lunch." What really was in the regular looking brown bag, was three new tubes of lip- gloss, a chocker necklace (some of us know what necklace I'm talking about… LOL), a ring, and 15 bucks. I had a total of 80 dollars in there. That is a lot to put on the line. However, I was just as committed to my work.

I took a short- cut to the gym, actually it was more of a "long- cut," but I really didn't want to see Addie and her boyfriends. Notice that is plural! Still, I got to the locker room before Addie (no surprise). I left out the bag with some of the contents spilling out, and went into a bathroom stall with perfect view of the bag. Removing my flip- flops and placing the on the toilets tank, I thought my plan through. Unfortunately, my line of thought was cut off, as soon as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I pushed my back against the wall of the stall, and climbed up with my feet pressing against the opposite wall. I most likely I looked like a swing, seriously! Now here it came…………..

The footsteps quickened, possibly because Addie may have spotted the bag. I heard the crinkling of my bag, this was my cue, I peeked out of the crack…. all I could say was "Addie! Get your filthy hands off of my stuff!!!" Ohhhh Myyyyy GAAWWWWDDDD!!!!!! She looked freaked, her screaming attracted a teacher. Ohhhh…… Addie really hates me now.

She got expelled, her boyfriends were all questioned, so were her friends. Or at least her friends would have been besides the point two of them wet their pants and the others admitted they never really liked her and had no idea what she had been doing lately. We all realized that we never really had known Addie. We all had just thought she was a really mean heart-breaker, turns out she was mush worse than that. Her parents got real embarrassed, her father lost his job, and their few billion dollar house was sold to some new girl who was MUCH better than Addie. It's how the saying goes "All is well, that ends well!" Of course let's not forget…. FRI- FRI WON AGAIN!!! And THE CULPRIT WAS CAUGHT!!!  I should start a business…. Yea…. I should….. "Fri-Fri's Detective Agency."

Too, bad none of this never happened…. SIGH…… why do I have to have the boring life? But, you have to say it sounded real, even though it was a little unbelievable, it did sound real. It's cause I thought like how I would normally think in each situation. It's really fun and easy, writing like no one else is going to read it. Like what you would write in a diary, journal, notebook, log, or whatever you  want to call it. You guys should really try it, seriously!

Chapters 1-18- WRITING PIECE

Love is one of the most dangerous things in the universe.  Time Stops For No Mouse is about two characters that experience love at first sight. It's also about bravery, happiness, and sacrifice. These three things are the main things that make falling in love dangerous. Especially, like so, when there are unplanned surprises waiting around the corner.

When Linka goes missing, her absence starts proving how confusing and dangerous love may be. This was one of my favorite parts; there was something that was different and exciting. Did this part of the story prove that absences only make love stronger? An absence, in this case, showed that not only does love become even stronger but also more confusing and dangerous. I liked this part because it was interesting point in the story. It gave me second opinions on things; that is why I thought that this part was one of the best parts throughout the story.

My other favorite part was when the rat came to pick up the watch Linka dropped off to be repaired in the beginning of the story. This was surprising; I had been intrigued by the previous disappearances.  Still this was not the part that got me thinking, what really made me think was that what could be so important about a broken watch that made Linka need it repaired as soon as possible and made the rat so anxious to get the watch from Hermux.  Is there really a good explanation behind this? Up until Chapter 18 the reason really isn't pointed out. Also, when the rat came to pick up the watch, Hermux had felt the urge to protect it. His love came back for Linka. He got worried about her safety and for that followed the rat. This is a reason that love is really dangerous. Hermux was willing to put his life at stake and follow a frightening rat all around town, just to make sure his true love is safe. The story so far is a little strange; there really isn't that much information and excitement yet. The reason to that, though, is that the excitement has only begun.

I think the story had could have been a little different. Even though the excitement is just starting, I still think that if the story's beginning had been more intriguing, there would have been a larger group of readers. What I would have changed wouldn't be too much, just a little in the start that so much of the time would not be spent on introducing the characters and unneeded events. I would have skipped right to the part when Hermux starts playing detective. Also a few more adventurous and dangerous things that prove that love is a step that should be thought over could have helped make the story more enjoyable. Also, a few reasons why Hermux feels so devoted to Linka and why Linka has gone missing. But, even without these changes the story still flows fine.

Time Stops For No Mouse really shows that love has danger, ups and downs. After reading this we should all realize that when you think you have met your match in love, you should be careful about what you really are putting at risk. Love can make everything better, but silently love is really starting a dangerous turn of events. Love could even change one’s life completely, even if it is unnoticed or unplanned. You know what they say "Love is a little foolish and a lot of curious." (George Bernard Shaw) Loving someone is a step we all need to take with precaution.

Chapters 16-18

Author's Note: I don't have any ideas to do...... WAIT..... WAIT...... WAIT..... KEEP WAITING...... I'm waiting for an idea......................................!!!!!!!!!!! GOT ONE!!!! OK, this is a haiku; a haiku consists of three lines. Five syllables in the first and last lines and seven syllables in the middle line. This is how I remember it:
I am first with five
Then seven in the middle --
Five again to end.
Easy, yea, I know. Anyways, so far in the story, Hermux has finished the opera about a moth who is the protector of nature and liked it a lot (I don't see how, because the last time I saw an opera, I fell asleep, and woke up every second some fat lady sang a super-high note…it sucked!)So, after the opera, he meets with Tucka, who no longer hates him because she now heard about the romance rumors. Tucka and Hermux go to Shangri- La, because Tucka's business is about to come to their "Milleneam Anniversary". And that's about it. Alright, now on with the haiku…

 I protect the wind
I seek out love of the trees
Know what my job means

You might think this is easy but, really it's not. You try writing one. It's kid of hard to find a cutting word. So, don't judge me! But, really you should try writing one, it's FUNN!!!!!

Chapters 12-15

Author's Note: I seriously don't know what to do, so I'm just going to write whatever. So far, from chapter 11, Hermux is not missing Linka anymore. He stops missing her, like, half way through Chapter 12. He's fine now, he's got his friends and all, and he's loving his life as a bachelor. He goes to parties, operas, movies, museums, etc. etc. etc….. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! OK, here we go:

Just like the flames
The fire that burns
My heart is different
Enjoying myself
With freedoms so far
But deep down inside
I'm missing you with my heart

The voices that echo
From the operas in gold
All have the truth
So mighty, so bold
I wait here enjoying my days
My worries are ceasing
There's thoughts that are pleasing

For me to unite
With my love so bright
I just need a hand
It will be grand
Just me and you in life
No hate, no problems, no strife

From the songs I have heard
I fly like a bird
I know of the truth
And I know I don't need you
The voices of the past
Were to good to last
Now here is reality
No longer I need you fast

No longer I love you truly
It's not unruly
I need reasons to be,
Reasons to free,
Reasons for you and me
And I live my life no worries at all
If you come not soon
I don't care at all
I don't need you now
Reality has taken control
I only need myself
Because I am bold

If you don't understand
Please don't come back
I don't really care
I don't need you at my side
I don't need to glide
I only need me
Because now…… I am free

Author's Note: Sounds weird, I know. I think so too. But, it's part of a series, first book. I read the last book in the trilogy- now I'm going back and reading the first two.

Chapters 4-11

Author's Note: So, in this response, I'm aiming at a poem that explains all eight chapters. To help you guys know what chapter is which, I'll start a new stanza for each. And I did notice that my syllables are terribly off…. No matter….. Someone requested a poem so here it is…… no names…… cough**Ally**cough….:D This is a summary; at the end of all the stuff, I have some opinions and such.

I stand waiting for you here
Sent a letter for you to appear
I need news of your behalf
Wait to hear your sweet chiming laugh
Desperate I am, madly in love
Your voice is like a cooing of a white pure dove
I still have your belongings with me
And I still wait to return them to thee

Waited so long by now
Rumors are spreading, don't know how
My worries keep growing
And stories keep showing
My eyes are bloodshot
Feeling terrible, scared, and what not
Wait for the reply every morning so glad
But, when I receive none, I feel so bad

Oh my, my, my
And why, why ,why
My home has been broke
I think I may choke
I need you here
I need you near
Frightened am I
Please come and reply

Disasters outcomes are here
I see it coming close and near
I asked for you to come, not this
Is there something in my letter you miss
Please come soon
Help me from my doom
I need you by my side
Please help my tears be dried

I think this part of the book is vvvvveeeeerrrrryyyyyyy BBBBOOOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!!! It's the opposite of me! Literally!
I think that something bad might have happened to Linka, but it's also possible that she may just be on another crazy adventure. Since she's like me, or I'm like her, (whatever you prefer) she is one of my two favorite characters. My  other favorite character is one of the beavers that is breaking down and remodeling the house. The beaver seems nice and outgoing…… LIKE ME!!! I like both of them because I can relate to their overall nature.
I can relate to the remodeling situation. I relate to this situation, in the position of Hermux, because I'm having my room re-done. My rooms not done yet in my house, but so far I don't really like it, they whole floor plan has been changed, I hate it! And the walls haven't been put up yet! That's a lot of info…. don't you think??? Anyways,  I know exactly how Hermux feels. He hates the new hallways in his apartment, like I do with my room. The hallways aren't done yet, like my room. So, I find my position like Hermux's. And did I mention how much I hate my room??? I don't think so, I'll tell you………. JK! :D

Chapters 1-3

Hermux Tantamoq is an average mouse that works in his watch shop everyday and stays at home with his pet ladybug, Terfel, every evening. He has a really simple, boring and busy life. He does the same things everyday and wants some change.

By the end of chapter three, Hermux had decided that it had been the most interesting and peculiar day of his life. He had met a mouse named Linka Perflinger. She was a new client who had made an urgent request to have a diamond- studded watch fixed. She is an- according to her business card- an adventuress, daredevil, and aviatrix. Unknowingly, Hermux falls in love with her the second they talk. It's his first time in love. After he retires for the night, he goes home to confront a very angry Tanka Mertslin. An over-perfumed, over- confident, over- fed, over- ridiculous mouse. She's the head of the decoration committee and possibly just may have proclaimed "war" on Hermux.

At the very end of "Chapter Three," Hermux spots Linka standing beside an airplane right outside his window.

The interesting part of this book is that the whole point that this is for a mouse is barely noticeable. Everything is the same; nothing changes at all. An apple is still an apple and an umbrella still an umbrella. So far, this is a really good book. Not going to give up on it just yet.

The piece had good vocabulary and good descriptive words. The only thing was it was kind of hard to understand at parts. First he missed her then he wanted her it was confusing.

That's why, Abby, it helps to read the author's note!!!

All of your poems are really good. I wish I could write poetry, but I stink at it. So nice job!

Your introduction on your last piece wasn't as strong as usual. The only thing I would say is in all of your pieces you say "the story was about love, sacrifice, and bravery." You always list what the books about.

I feel like in every essay you're writing about what your favorite part of the book was you tend to get into the habit of writing 'This book is about ___, ___, and ___.' You should try to get out of that habit because I know you can write much better than that. You still did a nice job of organization in your response to the story.
